EIFS & Synthetic Stucco Contracting Experts

When it’s properly installed, synthetic stucco is an energy-efficient, cost-effective building material that can transform the appearance of a structure. Commonly called EIFS (for exterior insulation and finish system), the layered cladding looks like stone or stucco but provides almost limitless design flexibility, making it a popular choice for commercial renovation.

With decades of general contracting experience across the entire United States, Schoenfelder Renovations’ employees have the know-how to install and repair EIFS siding affordably and efficiently, helping clients realize the product’s promise. Contact us to request a bid by calling (952) 345-2900.

What is EIFS?

As the name implies, EIFS is applied to the exterior of a building, providing both insulation and a decorative finish. Developed in Europe as a way to rehabilitate structures damaged during World War II, it made its way to the United States in the late 1960s and quickly caught on thanks to the efforts of industry pioneer Dryvit Systems, Inc.

Unlike traditional cement stucco, EIFS siding uses plasticizers that make the material more flexible and durable. Most modern synthetic stucco includes the following components, according to the EIFS Industry Members Association:

  • Moisture barrier and drainable plane
  • Finish coat, typically including colorfast, crack-resistant acrylic
  • Foam insulation board
  • Water-resistant basecoat, embedded with fiberglass reinforcing mesh

Installing EIFS Stucco

Before manufacturers developed a water-resistant barrier for synthetic stucco, it was fairly common that older structures experienced many issues due to faulty installation. One problem was that Improperly sealed joints allowed moisture to penetrate walls, which often caused major structural damage to commercial properties.

The EIFS experts at Schoenfelder Renovations can address water problems resulting from faulty design and installation. Typically, that requires the following:

  • Removing part or all of the leaky material
  • Fixing the leak and any damage
  • Reinstalling Dryvit stucco correctly
  • Or replacing EIFS siding with cultured stone or other alternatives
